This month we have chosen to spotlight a guild of a different sort. The WarMongers are unique in that they aren't really a guild but a gaming alliance and they are organized for a game not yet released as well as a guild with a unique mission and purpose. We wish Osyshnir the best of luck with his quest to help people through gaming. You can also find our more about the WarMongers at their site. Here is the interview.

Interview with a WarMonger

Basic Stats
Guild Name : WarMongers
Guild Master : Osyshnir
Members: 45
Organization: Gaming Alliance
GL: When was your guild founded?
Osyshnir: August 7, 2007 at 5:30PM EST is when I officially opened us up to the public. And we're not really a guild, more of a collective, or alliance. The way Warhammer Online is setup, you will play in the Army of Order or Destruction on a server. You cannot play both on one server as it's called "cross realming" or "cross teaming", and that's a bad thing. I had members who simply couldn't deal without playing a Witch Hunter (damn those hats) so I had to figure out how we could play both. So we will have an Order Guild on one Server and a Destruction Guild on another. They have also mentioned limiting the number of which you can have in a guild, if this happens we will immediately create new guilds to house new members.
GL: How many members are in your guild?
Osyshnir: At this time 43. A fair number of those are guild leaders from other games. Many from those guilds will be coming over to WarMongers as the game gets closer to going live.
GL: Do you classify your guild as a raiding, social/raiding or social guild? Tell us about WarMonger's structure.
Osyshnir: We have a few months yet before we'll be anything other then just a social guild. When we go live we'll be raiding and RvRing like everyone else.

What makes us different is the core premise behind WarMongers. We will be using the guild (Alliance) and the game as vehicle to make money for charity, and do some other beneficial drives for things outside of the game. I know of one MMO that has over 9 million accounts. Everyone of them is spending roughly $15.99 per month to play. If they spent $16.99 per month that would be $9 million per month for charity. Jerry Lewis pulled in $63.8 Million in on Labor Day this year. With the figures I popped up above the gaming community could easily throw together $108 million per year. We are a large untapped resource for helping out in the world, and virtually ignored. That all stopped with the founding of WarMongers. We will try to find ways to tap those funds and help out the world, and then we'll kick back and kill a bunch of stuff in the game.
GL: What tips/tricks do you have for keeping your guild drama-free?
Osyshnir: At onset I hired a professional drama lama wrangler and we built a corral for them in Wyoming.

Oh, you mean seriously?

We have too much stuff to do in WarMongers, and just don't have time for serious drama. It's possibly the easiest way to get yourself the boot. I know there will always be a bit here and there, but our goals sit a bit higher then ourselves and all members are on board with that. Having a serious mission, drama really doesn't play a factor. The RvR element of Warhammer Online does cause some drama. You knock heads with the wrong folks and they want to tell you off. We as WarMongers do respect this need. We have an open forum set up so people can come in and tell us just how much they hate us. Hopefully it will give us something to laugh about and break the seriousness of the other things we do.
GL: What is unique about your guild?
Osyshnir: All of us are absolutely sexy. Quite possibly the hottest guild ever created. Oh yeah, um, we don't take ourselves too serious. You may have picked up on that. Our charity work pushes us ahead by leaps and bounds right now. I just hope that isn't unique for long. Outside of that, we're just like any other gamers, except we're hot.
GL: Do you have an age requirement?
Osyshnir: I would like to say yes, but we don't. We accept mature people. If you're under 18 you seriously need to make us believe in you in your application. We have a couple who are 17 in guild right now. I couldn't make there be an upper end limit as I'm older then dirt. Our average age is 20-35.
GL: What do you look for in a potential new guild member?
Osyshnir: If you ask things like, do I need a computer for this, you probably won't make the cut. A good head and a good heart. Sense of humor helps tremendously. I did mention we don't take ourselves too serious didn't I? Maturity is a must. If they're in the ballpark, we can whip them into shape pretty quick. Oh and they should be able to get coffee orders right. My recruiters didn't want to add that, but the wrong amount of sugar makes me wired and that's usually bad news.
GL: How many hours do you play a week and do you have time requirements for your guild (i.e. minimum number of hours played in order to stay in the guild)?
Osyshnir: The vast majority of our guild are students and professionals. I hope to get enough in guild that finding people to group with won't be a problem. As for hard set limits, nah. I would like to see ya in playing and having fun. If you're going to be gone, best let us know. Otherwise we could have an in game funeral for you and then when you come back you could be purged by cleansing fires as a witch. I will say if the game starts to interfere with your schooling, job or real life stuff, you'll find yourself getting talked to and if it continues potentially booted.
GL: Do you help new guild members get up and running? If so, how?
Osyshnir: I hope to have enough folks on at all hours so that grouping and leveling will be fairly easy. If folks want to give you hand me down stuff, or crafted stuff that's cool. If crafting is implemented, I'm sure there will be things for new folks. What I don't do is read constant spam about "PL (powerlevel) plz" or "Can someone make me this or that?" or "Can someone give me some money?" Things will be offered, help will be offered, but it's not to be taken for granted. We work as WarMongers first, so fellow WarMongers come before anyone else on the server. Asking if people can help with a quest is cool. Just make sure if someone says, "I need one part before I can do that one with you", you help them too.
Now that you've gotten this far you should check out the WarMongers site. Thanks for your time Osyshnir and good luck with the WarMongers. I'm sure we'll be talking to you again when Warhammer is released.
